How to Use the Tax Calculator

This tax calculator handles two common scenarios: adding tax to a pre-tax price, and removing tax from a tax-inclusive price. It supports any tax rate — enter your country's VAT, GST, or sales tax percentage.

Adding Tax to a Price

Select "Price + Tax →", enter the original price, choose or enter your tax rate, and click Calculate. The result shows the total price, tax amount, and original price.

Removing Tax from a Price

Select "Price with Tax → Without Tax", enter the price you paid, select the tax rate, and click Calculate. You'll see the pre-tax price and the tax amount.

Formulas

  • Price with tax = Pre-tax price × (1 + Tax rate)
  • Pre-tax price = Tax-inclusive price ÷ (1 + Tax rate)
  • Tax amount = Tax-inclusive price − Pre-tax price

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate the price including tax?
Price with tax = Original price × (1 + Tax rate). For example, $100 at 10% tax = $100 × 1.10 = $110.
How do I remove tax from a price?
Price without tax = Tax-inclusive price ÷ (1 + Tax rate). For example, $110 at 10% = $110 ÷ 1.10 = $100. Use the "Price with tax → Without tax" mode.
Can I use a custom tax rate?
Yes. Select "Custom" from the tax rate options and enter any rate. This works for any country's VAT or sales tax.
How is the tax amount calculated?
Tax amount = Price with tax − Price without tax. Or equivalently, Original price × Tax rate.
Does this work for VAT in Europe?
Yes. Enter the appropriate VAT rate for your country (e.g. 20% in the UK, 19% in Germany) using the Custom rate option.
