Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a percentage discount?
Discount amount = Original price × Discount rate ÷ 100. Sale price = Original price − Discount amount. For example, 30% off $50: discount = $15, sale price = $35.
How do I calculate a fixed amount discount?
Simply subtract the discount amount from the original price. For $50 with $10 off: sale price = $40. Use the "Fixed amount off" mode.
What if the discount exceeds the price?
The sale price will be shown as $0. A discount cannot reduce a price below zero.
Can I calculate the original price if I know the sale price and discount?
If you know the sale price and percentage discount, the original price = Sale price ÷ (1 − Discount rate). This calculator focuses on finding the sale price; use algebra or a general calculator for the reverse.
Does this include tax?
No. Enter prices before or after tax depending on your needs. If you want to apply both discount and tax, calculate the discount first, then use the Tax Calculator.
